Skill Share led by

artist Sharon Pollock

Sharon will be sharing her process of handbuilding with thrown forms:

This process opens doors to invention and investigation. Working with Clay at different stages of dryness and engaging in the moment gives us the opportunity to see and try new ideas. It can guide our aesthetic inquiry to places that a more direct approach limits. And it's fun.

About the artist:

Sharon holds a BFA from the University of Minnesota where she studied with Warren Mackenzie and an MFA from Boston University where she studied with Chris Gustin. Sharon has taught as an adjunct professor at UMASS Dartmouth, RISD, and UCONN STORRS. At the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), Sharon taught CE and ran the RISD SUMMER RESIDENCY PROGRAM. Sharon was the Startup Director Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts, leads workshops at Snowfarm and has exhibited work in galleries and retail shows.

”I enjoy exploring the possibilities inherent in ceramic materials and processes. Formal considerations and historical references dominate my inquiry of functional and sculptural issues. I feel a connection with makers of the past. Forms and surfaces are a record of how they touched the clay and how the clay responded to that touch, how they used the fire and how the objects they made speak to their time and culture. I am blessed to be part of that continuum.” Sharon Pollock
