Agateware is the process of layering, stacking, and wedging colored clay to mimic the look of the semi-precious stone agate.

Known in Japan as Neriage or Nerikomi, it was first seen during the Tang dynasty in China in the 6th century and became widely popular in Staffordshire, England  during the 18th century.  

Come join the Berkshire Potters Collective as we explore with Mackenzie Pickaart the agateware process.  This one-day workshop will be held on May 30th 2026 at the Lenox Community Center, 65 Walker Street, Lenox MA 02140, from 10am to 5pm. Everything you need to produce beautiful plates and platters will be provided:  red and white stoneware, rolling pins, hardy board for wedging, and molds. All you have to bring is your favorite handbuilding tools.  

You are welcome to bring your lunch or take a short walk to one of the many Lenox eateries to pick-up a light lunch.
