Anne Ferril

I make ceramics with the hope that my pieces will give as much pleasure to others as I feel while creating them. In working with clay, I try to remain curious, engaged, and challenged, both creatively and technically. I want my pieces to invite close attention and to be touched and used.

Nature is a constant source of inspiration, as is the work of other artists. I am especially drawn to the way light interacts with surface and to how color shifts and deepens through different firing techniques. These unpredictable transformations continue to shape my approach to form and finish.

For forty years, I worked as a chef, finding joy in learning about other cultures through their cuisine. That same curiosity now guides my ceramic practice. I experiment with materials, processes, and techniques to better understand how they influence the final piece. Each work reflects a process of exploration, where knowledge gained through experience becomes an essential part of the finished form.
